SAN FRANCISCO-- Members of United EMS Workers-AFSCME Local 4911 turned out to a JP Morgan Healthcare Investment Conference where their employer’s CEO was scheduled to speak. EMS professionals asked investors to call on Envision Healthcare’s company, American Medical Response to do the right thing and help them get a fair contract.
Circling around the hotel entrance where the conference was being held, members handed out leaflets and spoke to healthcare investors about their vision for EMS. “We all need to work together to move EMS forward, and what better way to push AMR than to ask their investors to help us hold them accountable,” said Brittney Silva, a Paramedic at AMR.
Members of United EMS Workers have been working without a contract for the past four months, and are facing stagnant wages and layoffs. “Envision Healthcare/AMR need to understand that only an experienced workforce will provide quality care to our communities, and I’m here to remind them of that,” said Lucas Freshman, EMT and member of United EMS Workers-AFSCME Local 4911. “We can’t afford to take our profession backward-- our families and communities depend on it.”
