ATLANTA, Ga. – Snow began falling in Atlanta at noon on Tuesday, and as drivers took to the streets, chaos ensued. While most Atlantans were able to leave their workplaces yesterday afternoon, Atlanta Public School bus drivers who are members of AFSCME Local 1644 stayed on the job, transporting children safely home over ice-slicked roads.Read more >>>

Last week, AFSCME celebrated the 50th anniversary of Pres. Lyndon Johnson’s declaration of the “War on Poverty” that inspired the creation of Medicare and Medicaid, food stamps (SNAP), subsidized child care, Head Start, housing assistance, and many other programs that continue to help America’s seniors and low-income families.
